Movie Analysis Think For Yourself - 1633 Words
Meera Kohli March 17, 2016 Period 4 ââ¬Å"Think For Yourselfâ⬠As a young population growing up in the twenty first century and being surrounded by social mediaââ¬â¢s newest tweets and pop cultureââ¬â¢s varying memes, we seem to let this electronic world determine what our actions as young people will be. We can find conformity take a huge role in this society. As we flip out our overpriced and fragile gadgets from the back pocket our tight unbreathable skinny jeans, we scroll through the infamous Instagram and find ourselves looking at the recent post of those popular kids at school. The gal sports her new one hundred dollar Lulu Lemon leggings as her boy toy continues sagging his Levis pants. The next day at school you can walk around and see manyâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Conformity is also not run by one person or thing; it is us joined together making up these synthetic ideas. Along with Emerson, our other transcendentalist, Henry David Thoreau, pleases us with his work, Walden. Walden revolves aro und the idea of simplicity and finding one s spirit. Thoreau also touches on the idea of needing the companionship of others. As a person living amongst this crowded world with peopleââ¬â¢s opinionated ideas I can only agree with Emerson and Thoreau on their ideas of Self-Reliance. These authors discuss ideas on self-reliance and urge us to become a better person by not constantly relying on others, to live life candidly and simply, and most importantly think for ourselves and escape these ideas of conformity. ââ¬Å"Self-Relianceâ⬠discusses how people should learn to escape the concept of conformity. With regards to this, this concept has been shaped and represented in many famous novels, and movies. For example, in the virtuous movie Dead Poets Society, Robin Williams played as Mr. John Keating is a new teacher at Dalton Prep, who brings up unheard ideas to his students like thinking for themselves and the idea of ââ¬Å"Carpe Diemâ⬠. Tom Schulman, the writer of this movie, was able to portray the harsh realities in this world. It makes me wonder that if our generation is so immersed into ourselves, what will our children be like? Can it get any worse? Many intellectuals
